Learning skills to negotiate for peace and security: FES held a three-day “Advanced Workshop in Negotiation Tactics and Strategies” with 35 Afghan young professionals in Kabul. Through interactive exercises and a complex simulation of peace talks with multiple stakeholders, they were introduced to the Harvard method of principled negotiation and systemic analysis tools. The group included members of the FES Young Leaders Forum (YLF) working in government, civil society, media, business, academia and international organizations.
Led by senior fellow Arvid Bell, Head of the Davis Center Negotiation Task Force at Harvard University, and co-facilitated by former FES Afghanistan Director Alexey Yusupov, the unique and truly intensive workshop delivered powerful learnings and takeaways on the complexities of conflict resolution. Participants acquired hands-on negotiation skills they can put to use in their professional and personal lives.
