Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung held strategic consultations with Afghan partners: Regional peace and security, economic connectivity, youth engagement and social justice were in the focus of a recent visit of FES senior representatives to Kabul.

Headed by Mr. Marc Saxer, Director of the Department for Asia and the Pacific at FES Berlin, the delegation was received by Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, High Peace Council -  Chairman Karim Khalili, National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mohib, Deputy Minister Nasir Andisha at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan (MFA) and former National Security Advisor Mohammad Haneef Atmar. Our colleagues also met with key civil society partners to discuss ways to support people-to-people contacts and uphold human rights in the context of the Afghan peace process. A memorandum of understanding was signed between FES Afghanistan and the Kabul-based Peace Training and Research Organization (PTRO) to further strengthen the Afghanistan Policy Group—a national dialogue platform and group of distinguished experts discussing perspectives and developing strategies for constructive conflict resolution in Afghanistan and its neighbourhood.
