Discussion on the Afghanistan Peace Process

FES welcomed the Chairman of the Afghan High Peace Council for discussions and consulations in Berlin.

Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung had the pleasure and privilege to host His Excellency Mohammad Karim Khalili, Chairman of the Afghan High Peace Council and former Vice-President of Afghanistan, for a wide-ranging discussion on the peace process this week in Berlin.

In a conference attended by some 70 senior experts and political practitioners and organized together with the Berghof Foundation, Chairman Khalili and his delegation discussed current developments, challenges and prospects for the Afghan peace talks with Ambassador Markus Potzel, Special Representative of the Federal Government for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Professor Hans-Joachim Gießmann, Executive Director of the Berghof Foundation, and Marc Saxer, Head of the FES Asia Department. The debate was part of FES’ long-standing peace and security activities aiming to provide a neutral platform for discussing perspectives and strategies for constructive conflict resolution in Afghanistan and its neighbourhood.
